Dining side chair designed by Motomi Kawakami. Architecturally styled with a Japanese sensibility: a clean solid-wood frame, gently curved back and seat, balanced proportions and a tall backrest. Pairs well with arm-height side tables; suited to dining rooms as well as hotel, office and hospitality settings. Material: solid Japanese Elm. Japanese designer born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1940. A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, he trained at Angelo Mangiarotti’s practice in Milan before founding his own studio, Kawakami Design Room, in 1971. His work spans environments, furniture and interior space with a consistently human-centred approach to design. Among his pieces for Conde House, the QUODO and SESTINA collections have become long-selling favourites. He has also been a long-standing supporter of the International Furniture Design Competition (IFDA) in Asahikawa and active in design education.
